Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
